Closing Reception for Onondaga Historical Association Exhibit

The Clean Tech Center will host a closing reception on January 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for the Onondaga Historical Association’s (OHA) art exhibit, “Renewal of a Community Resource: Onondaga Lake’s Historic Role in Creating Syracuse’s Identity,” currently on display at The Tech Garden.

Gregg Tripoli (left) and Dennis Connors, of the Onondaga Historical Association, examine a painting depicting the city of Syracuse in 1852. The painting is part of the exhibit “Renewal of a Community Resource: Onondaga Lake’s Historic Role in Creating Syracuse’s Identity,” currently on display at The Tech Garden.

The closing reception will differ from the Open House hosted by the Tech Garden in September, as there will be several opportunities for visitors to take guided tours with Dennis Connors, Onondaga Historical Association curator and local author.

Visitors can examine over 30 paintings, maps, and photos depicting the lake’s historical significance to the region, over the past 500 years. The exhibit begins with several paintings discussing use of the lake by the Iroquois and then illustrates the transition of the lake from a major manufacturing and commercialization site for salt and soda ash, to a destination resort community. The final pieces in the exhibit discuss the current status of the lake as well as possible future value that would result from the restoration of the waterfront community.
