- St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center plans a $245 million
hospital expansion. The multi-phase construction project
will expand the emergency department and its psychiatric
emergency room, add 110 private patient rooms, add an
operating room suite, and a data center. The project will create
600 constructions jobs and once completed, another 200
health care jobs.
- The Hayner Hoyt Corp., a local general contractor,
moved to its new 20,000 square-foot headquarters on Erie
Blvd. West. The larger space will allow the company to
accommodate its steady growth. Haynor Hoyt currently
employs 82 and anticipates hiring 20 new employees in
2009.
- SRCTec Inc. recently won a $700 million contract to upgrade
its counter-IED system for the U.S. Army. The project
will lead to $25 million in subcontractor work in Upstate New
York. This includes Anaren, Inc., a DeWitt-based company that
develops and manufactures electronic components and subsystems
for the wireless communications and defense sectors. SRCTec was
also awarded a $15.4 million contract by the U.S. Army for three
lightweight radar systems that detect mortars. The
- Northeast Power
Alliance, a joint-venture company that won a $1 billion
contract with National Grid, opened a new office in downtown Syracuse.
The 25,000 square-foot site, located in the Clinton Exchange
building, will house 140 engineers, project managers and support
staff.
- Renovate Manufacturing LLC, located in the town of Clay,
expanded to a 108,000 square-foot building on Henry Clay
Blvd. The company that began refurbishing computers a
year ago expects to add between 20 and 45 employees.
Renovate, an affiliate of Seneca Data Corp., currently employs
between 155 and
160 workers.
- The Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in the East Tower vertical expansion at University
Hospital was recently completed. The new 87,000 square-foot children’s
hospital will offer a full spectrum of primary and specialized
medical care for pediatric patients and their families.
- CRS Cos. of Williamsville, NY plans to redevelop the
former Hurbson building in Armory Square. Plans call
to transform the vacant 22,000 square-foot building into
a mixed use facility of apartments and retail space.
A $1.3 million Restore New York grant will allow the
project to start within the next several months.
- Northside
Collision recently opened its fourth store in seven years
in the town of Camillus. The new state-of-the-art collision
repair facility is located on the corner of Hinsdale Road and
Milton Ave.
- Allred and Associates, Inc., a product-design engineering
and manufacturing firm that specializes in working with
extremely strong carbon fiber composite materials used
in the military and civilian industry, plans to further
expand their new 15,000 square-foot facility by adding
an additional 5,500 square feet of space. The expansion will give
the company the opportunity to take on larger projects, retain
six to eight jobs, and add five to 10 new manufacturing jobs.
Allred currently employs 40 people.
- Comfort Suites Syracuse/Cicero
Conference Center, a new $7 million hotel and meeting
facility, recently celebrated its grand opening. The 65-room property
is located off Interstate 81, near Gander Mountain, approximately
seven miles north of Syracuse.
- Northeastern Electronics
Co., a small manufacturing company in Elbridge, recently
hired 15 workers and
plans to hire an additional 20 in early fall. The company
manufactures electronic cables and related equipment.
- Crouse Hospital recently opened a new $1.4 million sleep
center, going from a two-bed lab to a six-bed accredited
center located in the main hospital. Crouse also continues
work on the $49 million Witting Surgical Center project,
which is currently under construction in the Memorial
circle area of the hospital. The 90,000 square-foot project
will feature all new inpatient operating rooms once completed
in the summer of 2011.
- Eric Mower and Associates (EMA),
the largest advertising and PR firm in Central New York,
announced plans to move its headquarters to a new building
in Syracuse’s Armory Square. Currently located at Bridgewater
Place, EMA will occupy 35,000 square-feet in the newly
constructed Jefferson Clinton Commons building in Armory
Square. The new structure, located at 500 S. Clinton
St., includes a combination of office, residential and
retail space. The move is expected to be completed by
December.
- Wayne-Dalton, Central New York’s largest
overhead garage-door dealer, moved to a new, 43,000 square-foot
facility on Kinne St., in the town of DeWitt. The firm
sells and installs overhead garage doors and employs
three people in DeWitt and 12 at its Hamburg, NY location.
- CNY Chef, LLC, a small new meal preparation and delivery business,
was recently launched in the town of Onondaga. The licensed
catering business offers set meal plans that are prepared,
assembled, and delivered to a customer’s home or business
location. The company plans to cater to working professionals
and senior citizens.
- Lockheed Martin, in the town of
Salina, won a $76.2
million contract to upgrade 17 radar systems
for the U.S. Air Force. The AN/FPS systems provide air
surveillance and air traffic control.
- Innovation Fuels,
Inc. will make Syracuse the hub of its Upstate New York
operations from their new office in The Syracuse Technology
Garden. The company is a producer and distributor of
biodiesel. Innovation Fuels is researching two different
fuel crops that are related to the plant that produces
canola oil.
- Teracai, a spinoff company from CXTec,
was recently launched to handle sales of new and refurbished
Cisco hardware and software. The new company will also
offer services and support such as installation, network
assessments, and project management. Teracai employs
40 people and plans to hire an additional 10 sales people.
- CabFab, a local manufacturer of furniture and custom
cabinetry, has partnered with Ithaca-based e2e Materials to produce a new line of products made from biodegradable
composite materials. CabFab is located in the 30,000
square-foot former Caldwell & Ward
Brass building on Burnet Ave. and employs 11 people.
e2e Materials employs seven and is based on Cherry St.
in Ithaca. The first joint project is to develop
cabinetry for the new Syracuse Center of Excellence building. The Center’s aim is to foster the area’s strengths
in energy and environmental systems through work with
academic institutions and industry.
- Woodbine Group announced plans to transform the former Temple Adath
Yeshurun on S. Crouse Ave. into a 60-room hotel called
Hotel Skyler. Renovation of the 35,000 square-foot structure
is expected to begin this month and be completed by June
2010. The hotel which will be targeted to business travelers
will employ between 15 and 17 people.
- Construction
is nearly complete on the new headquarters for the Syracuse
Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems
(CoE) located on Almond and Water Streets. The $35.6
million facility will house a variety of labs and offices
that will support research, development and job creation
in the fields of indoor environmental air quality, renewable
energy and water resource management. The center, a consortium
of CNY businesses and academic institutions led by Syracuse
University, is expected to receive $1.4 million in research
grants for nine projects.
- Byrne Dairy plans to invest
$350,000 on a new pilot processing plant within their
new Ultra Dairy plant in the town of DeWitt. The pilot
plant will be able to replicate full-sized plant production
in small batches as new products are created. Food scientists
from around the world will be invited to test their planned
dairy products in the Syracuse plant. Prepared by: Greater
